Welcome to my Home Library

I don’t have walls of bookshelves, and very few of my books live in resplendant glory. Most are double-stacked, over-crowded, and dare I say dusty? Life in Hawaii is not kind to books, so I prefer to borrow most of my reads from our faithful local libaries. The ones that do take up precious space in my home have been chosen with thoughtful care, purpose, and consideration. The same process the books on this list will go through.

This selection of books will certainly grow overtime, but it is not meant to be a cataglog of every book on the market. Rather, it is meant to lead you on rabbit trails of discovery, opening doors to new authors, genres, and hopefully teaching you how to curate your own tastes (and those of your family’s) to increase in substance as you relish in the deep-seated joys a well-written book can bring.

Popular Terms

The book world is full of its own lingo and acronyms. Here are a few to help you discern the verbage.

POV

“Point-of-view” This is whose perspective the story is written from. It can be one person’s or it can switch chapter to chapter, even scene by scene.

Spice

We’re not talking about flavoring here! This pertains to the level of intimacy the love interests share  on the page. A spicy book is a no-go for me and my family. No-spice means there’s still kissing, but that’s as far as it goes.

Trope

This has to do with the themes in the book. Is it grumpy v. sunshine? Found family, political intrigue, portal fantasy, or hero on a quest? All of these are various kinds of tropes, and it’s a super helpful way to find books that suit you.

Books That Shaped Me

Before you dive into my lists, it might help you to know what some of my favorites books are. These are old beloveds, tomes that formed and molded my heart, mind and soul. These are books God used to set me on the path of reading I am on today.
